Only allow companies you have an existing relationship with (like us or a hardware/software company you own products from) to access your computer remotely! When searching for 800 numbers of technical support for a company – make sure it's really listed on that company's website!

If you run Norton anti virus, you need to update ASAP. While they usually update their signatures automatically, the actual software does not. Right click on the Norton icon in your system tray and 'check for new version' or go to Norton's website and use the product update tool.

The difference in memory (RAM) and storage (Hard Drive) is commonly misunderstood. Having more of one can help performance while more of the other lets you store more stuff, but doesn't affect performance. Because they use the same unit of measurement (Gigabytes), they're often confused or conflated.

Microsoft Office Macro attacks have made a big comeback in recent months, including a particularly damaging encryption virus called Locky. Office document macros are a rarely used feature that you should NEVER enable unless you are 100% positive the sender a) sent you the file in question and b) purposefully included a macro for usability. All it takes is one employee opening one office document and clicking 'Enable' and your entire business could be encrypted and held for ransom. Are you backed up? Are you using any type of network security system that might block the infection? IT Xpress can help! Call 336-525-5005 or email

Microsoft has been extremely aggressive in trying to get people to switch to Windows 10. One reason is they have also been aggressive in setting the 'default' programs people use every day (browser, email, photos, etc) to Microsoft programs (allowing them to collect more data, earn more money, etc). Even when people have set their own defaults, Microsoft has repeatedly 'reset' the defaults back to Microsoft programs 'by mistake'. This is another instance of this. So if suddenly your default browser, email, photo, maps, and/or music application switched – this is why. Switching back can be done in Settings.

USB-C is the new 'ultra port' that can do everything. Charing, flash drives, printers, monitors, and more. The problem is a number of cheap cables are causing serious damage to equipment. So be careful when buying USB-C cables – reviews matter. No, you don't need to spend $1000 on Monster Cable's ridiculous cables, but a few extra dollars could be worth it.
